Kodak Bantam Series
(1935-1957) Kodak introduced 828 film in 1935 as a compact alternative to 35mm film, offering a larger image area of 28×40 mm. Kodak released the Bantam series of folding cameras to use this film and as a spiritual successor to the popular Vest Pocket folding cameras. Over the years, the Bantam evolved, including the introduction of the Flash Bantam post-WWII and the Bantam Special in 1936, a high-end rangefinder. Kodak Ltd. (UK) continued using the 828 format in the 1950s for the Bantam Colorsnap series, before phasing it out in favor of the more popular 35mm format, which later inspired the 126 cartridge system used in Kodak’s Instamatic cameras.
